Dear all,
My name is Simon Sheikh, based in
Copenhagen and Berlin. Trebor has
invited me to join this list, even though I
cannot claim to be in any way an expert in
the area of the conference. I am, however,
quite interested in some of the topics. As
way of introducting I can say that I am a
writer and curator, and currently running a
Critical Studies program co-hosted by the
Malmö Art Academy and the Rooseum
exhibition space in Southern Sweden.
This is a one year international study
program for both artists, theorist and
curators. In addition to this I have just
started working as a curator for the
Nordic Institute of Contemporary Art in
Helsinki, and I edit a book series called
oe which is co-published by b_books,
Berlin.
At NIFCA I arranged a seminar for artists
and curators this summer entitled Power
and Representation, that was only open
for the public, Trebor was one of the
participants, and I think that the
experiences from these sessions can be
somewhat useful for the discussions.
Finally I am actually editing a book now
entitled 'Here and Elsewhere', which
deals with the relation between places
and, in turn, perceptions, and since this
project will be both in book, CD-rom and
internet format I would be very interested
in receiving comments, criticisms and
proposals from all of you on it at some
point.
