| Hi everybody, This is Katrien from Boston. I am interested in finding out and thinking through alternative conference structures. I find the bulk of academic presentation formats archaic and would like to try out new approaches. I think it is important for presenters to be a bit familiar with each other's work in advance so that the 'show off' factor goes down. The best conferences I attended had readers sent to participants in advance with all the essays-in-progress. The essay-in-progress more than finished essay gives insight into 'gaps' in the discourse and sparkles feedback. This is still different from Trebor's idea of collaborative text writing and filtering, which perhaps takes the idea of pre-existing conference reader one step further. I would definitely invite artists to write as well. I am also interested in thinking through the present collaboration and I think the blog looks like a great format to try out ideas and structures. Long live the blog. I also really believe in real meetings when things need to be consolidated-- perhaps we don't live that far apart? Katrien |
