| Hi all, I'm experimenting with crossovers of public spaces, Internet and gallery space. Last year I curated a show, a wifi gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark, to connect a wifi hotspot:public space, gallery space (where there were a wifi reaching out in public space-the Royal Park across the street, and the Internet. A way to interconnect Local space and global space, with critical art...... info here: http://www.ORBremote.com now my new project is "s.t.r.u.k.t.u.r.", a exhibit located at artist::network, NYC. at the exhibit there will be a comment board, Public Desktop by Jonah Bruckner-Cohen, where you all are invited to post your feedback on structures in network, art and collaboration and in the future. It will start May 7.2004 any feedback is welcome -eva sjuve******************* s.t.r.u.k.t.u.r. The concept of the show is a critical exploration of structures in art and communication, with an emphasis on creations of the future. s.t.r.u.k.t.u.r. can be viewed as a way to expose the arrangement of the parts of the structure and the action of looking towards the future. Practice, theory and open structures as in network, discussion, and exchange act as a starting point for the artists involved, as a dynamic communicative process. To use the gallery as a space for meeting, exchange of ideas, and make a crossover between the global network, public space, and the gallery space, is one of the aims of the exhibition. …………………. "PublicDesktop" project, by Jonah Bruckner-Cohen (IR), Research Fellow at Human Connectedness Group, Media Lab Europe, PhD Candidate Trinity College Dublin. Email: jon-*at*coin-operated.com http://www.coin-operated.com/publicdesktop Public Desktop is a project that looks at expanding the seemingly closed off desktop background of the computer into a public one that can be annotated by anyone online. The idea is to add sociability to the desktop through a public web form that turns your desktop into a public graffiti wall where people can leave messages, post thoughts, or use as a chat client. The real aim of the work is to create a sense of connectedness among people in a background way where glancing at your screen might reveal a new message someone has left. This is different from conventional messaging systems since it requires no direct action of communication from the person who has the PD application running. They can simply install the project and watch as their desktop is annotated in real-time by people visiting their website. PublicDesktop is a free, downloadable application that runs on Mac OSX. The global community will be invited to participate with their comments on the overall topic at s.t.r.u.k.u.r. ……………………….. David Goldenberg with Ilze Black and Wim Salki (London, UK) will create a Think Tank for dynamic exchange of theoretical and practical suggestion for the future of art practice, involving on theories of German theorist artists Michel Lingner. The future of Post Autonomous Practice. ………………………… Jim Costanza (NYC) will create work data_map, where his movements are geographically mapped using new technologies, as records of credit card transactions by ATM's and GPS. The datamap is based on the data that is generated by those of us privileged to be plug into the global economy. Activities that are based on electronic transactions that we take for granted: credit and bank card transactions; grocery purchases; Internet activity; as well as the E–Zpass and METRO CARD. The datamap highlights the consequences of the Electronic Information Age, as data becomes more accessible our rights to privacy, one of the foundations of democracy, are eroded by government surveillance and commercial exploitation. ……………………………. s.t.r.u.k.t.u.r. will open Friday May 7th and close Saturday June 5th. the:artist:network new york 424 Broadway 6th Floor New York, NY 10013 ……………………………..
