I guess I thought this was a good place to mix discourses. Sorry to have been misled. I'm not going to bother with corrections or comments on the reprimand about "cooperation." For those who take interest in this, such hostility has always made discussion lists difficult. Bravo to Geert for the encouraging tone his posts always have.

and Freecooperation,
We would like to submit a proposal for a brainstorm session (in-person) on the
topic of the missing.

| | This hit a nerve (the pleasure nerve we tried to reach in college experiments
using mice). I was just reading a book called Marxism and Philosophy (1923)
by a guy named Korsch, who argues that the bourgeois history of philosophy
cannot account for what historians of philosophy see as a sudden lack of
interest in Hegel after about 1850. Korsch seems to suggest that we can
understand this phenomenon only by applying a dialectic understanding of this
history.

If X = Hegel's philosophy;
and X also as Hegel's philosophy is Hegel's method, dialectics;
then let X be used to examine X;
thereby producing-- X!
Progress!
(Where's the cooperation in that method?
The 'other' required for all cooperation?)
The 'missing' project is interesting, insofar as it sounds like a bazaar of
the weird. An exchange of the esoteric. "Useless, unfiltered, too filtered
information, here, there, gone, missing!" A politics of excess and absence,
perhaps?
What is missing for me, in my particular niche, is a positive understanding
of the energies & tactics, politics of disappearance & mobility, temporality
& space, distribution, replication, & dissemination of global yet particular
rave culture. I've pasted an email below I just received today in response
to a text that demonstrates & performs the 'directionless' aspect of those
who felt involved in a sub/culture throughout the '80s/'90s, and today find
themselves classically lost ('classically' as this appears patterned through
the sub/cultural model--a model which today, I believe and through patterns
of information sharing/networks, has changed and shifted, from content to
force of distribution, but we'll end there).
The point? Understanding rave culture as model of spontaneous
cooperation--not ideally, but tactically, acknowledging all consumerist,
hierarchical, sadomasochistic, overly-hedonistic, drug-laden tendencies.
best,
tobias

"hey:
i don't know how my boy got a hold of it, but he forwarded me your peice
"warehouse-nettime03". i just wanted to give you props.
[accolades snipped]
knowing there are others out there who are still thinking and who won't
forget is a big deal, i just wish i knew what to do next. im there too. i
know these ghosts also, and there are many nights when they won't let me
sleep. but the warehouses are empty and the cause for the music has long
since passed and there is nowhere to go.
im an architect, or im trying to be one. it used to be that my art and the
culture that i loved were fused into one, and i lived the architecture of
the warehouse just as i drew it in school. but now im doing something else-
i guess i do it now for my wife and my daughter more than any other reason-
but the sense that it was part of a movement is totally gone now. now its
just fragments. now its just work, just a job, just something im doing for
the time being, just another day.
but it helps, every once in a while, to hear it from another voice.
anyway, i never write random e-mails to people i don't know. but i wanted
to let you know that it was good to hear from you all the same.
thanks,
