FIRST CONFERENCE ON SOCIAL MOVEMENTS AND ACTIVIST RESEARCH

The first Conference on Social Movements and Activist Research will be held
in Barcelona at the Ateneu Popular 9Barris, from the 22nd- 25th of January.
The Conference aims to establish a space of encounter, exchange,
self-formation and debate from and for Social Movements in relation to
Activist Research.
We depart from three main principals: Activist Research could be one of the
instruments for critical change; we need to generate knowledge based on our
own subjectivities, and moving beyond hierarchy and academic restriction;
and
we need to create new spaces and new ways to produce, exchange and
collectively reflect on and around this knowledge, while denouncing the
ongoing
mercantilization and privatisation of knowledge.
This initiative comes from a group of people who do research from the Social
Movements, but we give great importance to the participation of all who are
interested in defining what the Conference will be. To participate just
