Dear List,
my name is Matthias Weiss. I'm a Dortmund/Germany based art historian,
who is specialized on art on the net and computer arts. Furthermore I'm
interested in performances. I finished my studies with a work on the
trompe l'oeil-stilllives of the Rembrandt's pupil Samuel van
Hoogstraten. After a second training as an editor of a newspaper I took
the advantage to administer the net art-site http://art.net.dortmund.de
until 2003. Now I'm a freelance art critic and researcher on net art and
software art and write my thesis on net art.
The reason for subscribing this list is, that with some artists,
scientists and students we organized two years ago the so called
"serverfestival" which is a loose connection which meets a few times a
year in different towns in Germany. Our main way to work together
("mutuality" is favored instead of "collaboration") is our web space
(www.serverfestival.net (sorry, german only at the moment)). We do have
a wiki and a blog and found out, that this is the best way to realize
our aims of a mutual, temporary community which tries to have ideas of
early forms of artistic conversation in mind. But furthermore, the site
is just to write text gifts. Therefore it is one major goal of the
serverfestival to scrutinize copy rights, patents and the limitations
due to censorship which are the most important problems for free speach
and intellectual enrichments of life.
Best regards
Matthias Weiss
